Supporting Young Carers' Mental Wellbeing
Across the UK, thousands of young people take on caring responsibilities at home for parents, siblings, or relatives. Many are doing so while navigating school, growing up, and their own emotional development. These young carers give so much and we believe they deserve time to rest, reflect and just simply be young again.
The Challenges Young Carers Face
Referrals for young carers make up a great proportion of the families we support. These children and teenagers often care for family members with physical and/or mental health conditions, or those with disabilities. As a result, they experience can high levels of anxiety and isolation, and often miss out on childhood experiences that their peers take for granted everyday. Time away, even for a few days, can make a vital difference.
How We Help Young Carers
Our funded holidays offer young carers a chance to escape from day-to-day pressures and reconnect with loved ones. Every holiday is designed to be low-pressure, accessible, and supportive - offering time and space for young carers to laugh, play, and feel free.
Mental Health Impact
In 2024:
- 88% of parents and carers said their children's mental health improved during the holiday
- 78% of parents and carers reported improved mental health for themselves
- 80% of families overall showed improvement in their wellbeing after their holiday
These outcomes show that a short break can offer long-lasting emotional benefits for young carers and their families.
