One of the World’s most famous marathons, the TCS London Marathon, takes in all the major sights and landmarks of this capital city. The 26.2 mile route takes you through Greenwich, past the Cutty Sark, close to the Shard, over Tower Bridge, round Canary Wharf, past the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament and ends up just past Buckingham House.

The course is officially described as ‘easy’ as its largely flat with just a few small rises but it’s a full marathon, so you’ll need to train to make it through. There's no need to keep up with the elite athletes who often break world records! You can be more relaxed and go for a personal best or just do your best to get round. London is a route that has something for everyone.

If you have applied for a ballot place in this event and would like to fundraise for the Family Holiday Charity, please email our team.

Why run the London Marathon for the Family Holiday Charity?

What makes London the best marathon in the world? We might be a little biased as it’s our capital city, but previous participants all say it’s the familiar sights and landmarks and the fabulous support all along the route from Londoners, visitors, family, friends and charities all cheering their hearts out for you to finish! We’re usually full of smiles at Mile 6 and Mile 23 so right there with you!

The other memorable element of this race is the team spirit and camaraderie from other racers who you pace with – both in your charity team (for us, we’re #HolidayHeroes), and others that you chat to and get to know along the route. You could be racing with someone trying to get a world record (often in fancy dress!), passionate about raising awareness for a cause, or with a compelling personal story about why they’re taking part. Sometimes you even get caught on the TV cameras! What’s true is that everyone racing has a story to share and this is really iconic moment for them.

Join team #HolidayHeroes – make this a real moment and memory for you, just as holidays make memories and moments that matter for families facing tough times.

Family Holiday Charity #HolidayHeroes team will be 45 strong this year – and we have 25 places still available. Join us in making holidays possible for families facing tough times.

Holidays give families space and time together – to laugh and have fun – as well as rethink, rebuild and refresh. Breaks open a world of possibilities, bringing long lasting impact and smiles all around.

  • Apply for a #HolidayHero place by completing this online form – we’ll be in touch to explain the next steps.
  • If you have applied for a ballot place in the event and would like to fundraise for Family Holiday Charity, please email us and we will welcome you into the #HolidayHeroes team!

Please note that runners will need to pay a charity registration fee of £100.00 and we ask for a minimum fundraising pledge of £2,250 (without gift aid).

We’ll help and encourage you to raise the funds to help around six families feel the lasting impact of a holiday.

TCS London Marathon is Family Holiday Charity’s biggest challenge race. We offer some special benefits for participants including post-race pasta party (where you can celebrate with your family and friends afterwards), a leg massage to help you keep moving, and our cheer points along the way are a great focal point to help you find your loved ones in the crowd.
